Grant from Ocean State Job Lot and Ocean State Charities Trust Supports Programming for Teens in Care and Ensures Youth Voice is Heard
This December the Rhode Island Foster Parents Association received $5,000 in funding from Ocean State Job Lot in response to a $5,000 matching grant from Ocean State Charities Trust. This funding will be used to support a variety of activities related to the Chaffee Life Skills Center, most notably activities associated with the new Real Connections Program, ensuring that all youth leave state care with a permanent positive adult connection; and OSSUM, a foster youth led advocacy group formed to address concerns with the state foster care and residential care systems. This support will also be used for measurement and assessment and will ensure that the youth voice is heard throughout the system by connecting with teens to assess how they are faring during their time in care and what happens to them when they leave.
